Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management
Partner
The Department of Solid Waste Management supervises the implementation of Ocean County’s District Solid Waste Management Plan, providing solid waste/recyclables planning that supports growth patterns and economically promotes the proper disposal of both recyclable and non-recyclable wastes.
They work diligently to ensure all programs and plans are carried out in an environmentally responsible and efficient manner, and the District Solid Waste Management Plan relies upon a multi-faceted recycling strategy in combination with a landfill management plan for those materials that the county cannot recycle.
Ocean County owns and operates two recycling centers, one in the northern region of the county and one in the southern region. The Northern Recycling Center, Ocean County's processing facility, is located on New Hampshire Avenue (off Route 70) in Lakewood Township. The Southern Recycling Center, which operates primarily as a transfer station, is located at 379 Haywood Road (Manahawkin) in Stafford Township.
The Department of Solid Waste Management and its programs are a function of the Ocean County Board of Commissioners, with Commissioner Barbara Jo Crea serving as Liaison to the Department and Anthony M. Agliata serving as Department Director.
